HUD Secretary Turner, Rep. Ciscomani Tour Tucson Homelessness Center; HUD Backs $1.8 Million Foster Youth Initiative
Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-AZ) and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner toured Gospel Rescue Mission in Tucson to see how local partnerships help people experiencing homelessness. The mission’s Center of Opportunity combines housing, recovery services, workforce development, healthcare access and spiritual support, with more than 50 community partnerships.
During the tour, Turner highlighted HUD’s Foster Youth to Independence (FYI) initiative, which helps young adults leaving foster care get housing assistance and supportive services. Ciscomani’s office says Turner has supported a $1.8 million investment in the initiative to assist more than 100 young people aging out of foster care.
Ciscomani’s office also noted his support for the bipartisan FAST Housing Act, which aims to speed housing construction by reducing regulatory barriers, and his introduction of the bipartisan CONSTRUCTS Act to address workforce shortages in residential construction.
Why it matters
