Grijalva Congratulates Southern Arizona Recipients of NeighborWorks America Grants to Create Jobs, Provide Affordable Housing

Washington, D.C. – March 9, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva today congratulated three Southern Arizona recipients of new grants from NeighborWorks America, a nonprofit group created by Congress in 1978 as a public/private partnership to provide grants, training and technical assistance to community organizations. Comite de Bien Estar, Inc., located in San Luis, was awarded $49,350, Housing Services of Southwestern Maricopa County was awarded $23,500, and The Primavera Foundation in Tucson was awarded $79,700.

In all cases, the funds are meant to “support the organization’s efforts to revitalize and sustain their community, promote and preserve affordable housing for the residents of their service area, and create or sustain jobs through local NeighborWorks-supported projects and activities in Arizona,” according to NeighborWorks information.

“These grants will generate economic activity in the community many times over, and each of these will help make Southern Arizona a better place to live,” Grijalva said. “The NeighborWorks model of bringing public and private resources together to improve communities has a good track record, and I’m glad to see these three groups take advantage of the opportunities available.”
