CIPA Passes House by Voice Vote

WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — H.R. 1073 the Critical Infrastructure Protection Act passes by voice vote and Congressman Trent Franks issued the following statement:

“There is a moment in the life of nearly every problem when it is big enough to be seen by reasonable people and still small enough to be addressed. Passage of this important legislation presents an opportunity for America and the free world to address and mitigate the vulnerability that naturally occurring or weaponized EMP represents to the mechanisms of our civilization.

“If this bill is signed into law it will represent the first time in history that Congress will be specifically addressing this dangerous threat of electromagnetic pulse. This legislation will enhance DHS threat assessments for EMP, help the United States prepare and prevent for such an event and improve educational awareness for first responders to protect critical infrastructure. Most importantly, this bill requires specific plans for protecting and recovering the electric grid and other critical infrastructure from a dangerous Electromagnetic Pulse event. I am honored to have played a role in this decisive step toward securing America’s infrastructure.”
