U.S. REP. RON BARBER TO HOST SOLAR POWER 101 TOMORROW
Event is 61st in series; will be co-hosted by Tucson Association of Realtors
TUCSON – May 31, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Rep. Ron Barber will host the 61st Solar Power 101 workshop tomorrow with the Tucson Association of Realtors with a focus on how solar installations affect residential and commercial real estate transactions.
“With the price of solar panels dropping by an average of 60 percent since the beginning of 2011, more and more people are choosing solar as an affordable investment for their homes and businesses,” Barber said today. “I have solar panels installed on my home and I know first-hand that they work efficiently and effectively to reduce my monthly electric bill.”
Solar-generating capacity in the United States increased by 76 percent last year from the year before – and the growth is expected to continue.
Solar Power 101 is a community education series that has provided information to thousands of Southern Arizonans over the past five years. It is the perfect way for people interested in taking the solar step to have access to the experts.
Tomorrow afternoon’s workshop is co-hosted by the Tucson Association of Realtors and will be held at the Realtors’ offices.
Barber will make opening remarks at the event. Other speakers will be:
- Bruce Plenk, solar energy coordinator for the city of Tucson, speaking on the state of the solar industry.
- Jonna Sotelo Douglas, director of the Arizona Association of Realtors and a founder of the Tucson Association of Realtors Green Forum, speaking on effectively using Multiple Listing Service’s new Green Features category
- Derrick Polder of , discussing energy-efficient mortgages
- Gordon Wicker, president of Quality Valuation Inc., talking about correctly appraising and pricing homes with solar installations.
The Solar Power 101 series was started in November 2007 by then-Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and Barber, who served as her district director. This is the fifth Solar Power 101 Barber has held since he took office in June 2012.
