March 24, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Qualified Phoenix residents may be eligible to participate in the city of Phoenix Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
The program, coordinated by the city’s Human Services Department, provides utility assistance to low-income households. Eligible applicants may receive assistance with utility payments for heating and cooling. Payments may be made to landlords when utility costs are included in the rent. Only the utility portion will be paid.
To be eligible, residents must not have received LIHEAP services in the past 12 months; be a U.S. citizen or qualified legal resident; and qualify for assistance based on a funding formula that considers income, utility usage and household makeup. Households must be below 200 percent of the poverty guidelines.
All applicants must provide proof of identity and citizenship. Assistance is offered as long as funding is available.
