Torrance, CA – October 28, 2011 – (RealEstateRama) — To say Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage agent Megan Fernandez is passionate about fighting for a cause is an understatement. In fact, the Scottsdale real estate agent currently is training for her fifth Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure®, a 60-mile walk held Nov. 11-13 throughout the Phoenix Metropolitan area.
Fernandez’s three-day trek will march through Scottsdale, Gilbert, Mesa, Tempe and Phoenix — not the easiest thing in the world to prepare for while balancing her full-time position at Coldwell Banker’s Scottsdale/Carefree office. Having already raised the minimum $2,300 to participate, Fernandez will be alongside her walking mates, which converge to form the team lightly titled, “Blisters for Boobs.” With Breast Cancer Awareness Month in full swing, Fernandez and her team’s training includes 20- to- 30-miles of walking per week. Fernandez and her new walking partner, Nancy Schmidt, have already begun meeting at 5:45 a.m., 2- to- 3 times a week for 10-12 mile walks.
“I started walking to honor my mom, Peggy, a two-time breast cancer survivor,” says Fernandez, who has raised as much as $7,000 in a single year for this cause. “However, I continue to walk to honor family, friends and clients who continue their fight against breast cancer. I am also very thankful to all who continue to support me, especially my colleagues and friends at Coldwell Banker who provide amazing support. I’m proud to be part of close group of survivors and activists alike who are working towards a cure to the No. 1 killer of women; it is a great, motivating experience.”
Fernandez has walked hand-in-hand with fellow Coldwell Banker agent and friend, Sandi Hess, in four previous events. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure® has raised $1.9 billion since its inception, and last year alone, $5 million was raised from Arizona participants. A percentage of the amount raised in each city remains with that city to help support breast education, research, screening and treatments.
“We are truly proud of what Megan has been able to, and continues to, accomplish” said Malcolm MacEwen, president and chief operating officer of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Arizona. “Her dedication to fight for something she feels so strongly about is precisely why she makes a great real estate agent, too. We are lucky to have her part of our Coldwell Banker family.”
