August Fire Burning in Prescott National Forest

Firefighters continue to battle the August Fire, which is now estimated at 630 acres and 80 percent contained.

As containment progresses on the August Fire continued through the day, some of the assigned resources were detailed to assist with initial attack on a new start, the November Fire. Two air tankers and 2 helicopters were able to get a wet line around the perimeter of the November Fire and stop the spread as a fire crew and 2 engines were diverted to begin the suppression efforts.

The November Fire is approximately seven miles south of Crown King in the Castle Creek Wilderness on the Prescott National Forest. Roughly seven acres in size, it is burning in chaparral. Firefighters will continue construct a hand line around the perimeter of the fire and mop-up today.

Road closures:

To ensure public and firefighter safety, road closures in the area of the fire remain in effect. Forest Roads 52B and 52 from Union Saddle (below the junction of FR 52 and FR 261) to County Road 177 are closed.

Drought conditions are continuing across the state of Arizona. To prevent additional wildfires, visitors to the Prescott National Forest are asked to exercise extreme caution with fire.
