Nearly 400 Phoenix Homes Weatherized, Jobs Created, Using Federal Funds
November 19, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) — Federal funds continue to create jobs and reduce energy use in Phoenix. Nearly 400 homes are being “weatherized” using funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), with many more to follow. The city of Phoenix received $7.2 million federal dollars to fund this program, administered by the city’s Neighborhood Services Department.
“This program is a win for everyone,” said Mayor Phil Gordon, “creating jobs in the construction industry and helping realize my goal of making Phoenix the ‘greenest’ city in the nation.”
“This is just the beginning,” said Jerome Miller, director, Neighborhood Services. “We will continue to put these federal dollars to work to provide maximum benefit to the residents of Phoenix.”
The Weatherization Program is available to low-income residents meeting specific criteria. Homes are tested to determine eligibility. Types of work include: sealing duct systems; insulation; cooling and heating systems; repairing appliances with carbon monoxide emissions; and lowering heat-gain through windows and doors.
