Nogales Port of Entry to Receive GSA Funds Under Recovery Act

Washington, D.C. – July 30, 2009 – (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva announced today that the Nogales West U.S. Land Port of Entry in Congressional District 7 will receive grant funds from the General Services Administration (GSA) through the American Recovery and Investment Act to construct a new high-performance green federal building.

One of 120 recipients, the Nogales West U.S. Land Port of Entry will receive nearly $1,000,000 through the GSA which helps provide superior workplaces, expert technology solutions, acquisition services, and allows federal agencies to focus on their core mission. GSA funds can be used to convert federal buildings into high-performance green buildings and create new energy-efficient federal buildings, courthouses, and land ports of entry.

“This is important for all of Arizona,” stated Grijalva. “The funding is crucial in modernizing border infrastructure that will increase our use of clean and renewable sources of energy, while promoting economic development and improving the quality of life in the border region.”

GSA was appropriated $5.5 billion under the Recovery Act to convert federal buildings into high-performance green buildings and build new energy-efficient federal buildings, courthouses, and land ports of entry.

GSA will obligate its remaining $4.5 billion in Recovery Act construction funds by September 30, 2011. Contract bids are coming in, on average, approximately 8 – 10 percent lower than expected, allowing GSA to fund additional high performance features in existing projects, and using existing criteria, consider funding additional projects with the goal of continuing to stimulate the real estate, construction, and manufacturing sectors of the economy.
